As a franchise sales consultant and a person who grew up with a franchise (my family owned a Dunkin Donuts for more than 2 decades) I am often asked what type of franchise, I personally recommend to buy. While all categories of franchise businesses have their own advantages and disadvantages, my personal preference would be to buy a service related franchise concept for a number of reasons.

Better lifestyle:
Service franchises in my opinion, in general, offer the owner / operator a better lifestyle, less stress and more freedom for a number of reasons including the following. They generally require fewer hours of operation, most can be operated on 5 day working week, they generally lower staffing requirements employee with less headaches, they did not damage inventory concerns and On the whole they are generally easier to manage.

Low investment:
Because they generally do not require the expense of building a shop or store before an area of heavy traffic, or the equipment requirements of a food or restaurant franchise, franchise service on a set generally require lower overall start-up costs.

Easier to grow:
Unlike retail businesses franchise which are confined to a specific location and are dependent on foot traffic, business services the owner an opportunity to go out and generate new business in a wide geographic area through a number of different options for placing on the market. The expansion of a service company to new markets is generally much less capital-intensive and expensive than adding a new unit physical detail.

Easier to manage:
I can assure you from personal experience that running a business service is generally much easier compared to a retail food or restaurant franchise. Most small businesses today have challenges finding reliable employees to meet their staffing needs. But for a number of reasons retail businesses, particularly restaurants, have more employee turnover and most headaches.

Better success rate:
While all categories of franchise businesses have a statistically higher rate of success than non-franchise start-ups, it has been my observation that the success rate of related services, franchises is generally higher than the franchises retail. I think this may have contributed to a number of factors including less startup and operating costs, less staff requirements, better profit margins, generally less overhead and a better overall lifestyle which can be updated operating a service related businesses.
